What's new at M&R? Our managers are constantly searching for the latest and greatest find. Within the last few monthes we have added a new crop of labels to our shelves as well as some new vintages of some old friends. Here are some highlights of our favorites.
River Road produces a tiny amount of sparkling wine and Clara's Cuvée, named after the owner's daughter (a dancer!). The River Road Brut Russian River Valley is a classic Brut blend of chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier. They use the classic second fermentation in the bottle to provide lively bubbles and a delicate, floral and fresh citrus bouquet. The wine's flavors linger in a nice yeasty, complex finish.

The Poggio Il Castellare vineyards are located in the hamlet of Castelnuovo Abate, next to the spectacular panorama of the Abbey of Saint Antimo, opposite the Orcia Valley where Mount Amiata rises imposingly. Their Brunello has received numerous accolades including the Wine Specators Top 100 Wines Of The Year in 2009. The 2009 Rosso Di Montalcino is a delight wth its ruby red color and delicate bouquet with a scent of violet. On the palate the flavors of raspberry jam and cherry fruit are balanced with smooth tannins and linger into the finish.

Morellino is the local name for the Sangiovese grape. Fattoria Querciarossa, with its cellar and vineyards, produces wines whose name and structure date back to the strength of this territory. The red fruit and black cherry characteristic of Sangiovese shine through in a fresh, appealing, forward wine supported by solid yet mellow structure. This versatile red wine is a splendid companion for spicier dishes, all types of grilled, roasted and barbecued red meats and hearty stews. |
The aromas are proud and bursting with pronounced notes of blackberries, chocolate-covered cherries and fresh sage. This is a smooth and round Cabernet, medium to full bodied with a good, lengthy finish. Serve it up with t-bone steaks, thin sliced roast beef on pumpernickel and baby-back ribs dripping with a homemade honey BBQ sauce. Hand crafted from small lots of organic grapes. |
From 60 year old Zinfandel vines! Flavors are abundant with raspberries, cherries, plums, raisins, spice and black pepper all wrapped around a nuance of oak. A real treat with burgers and saucy, spicy BBQ. Made from organically grown grapes in small lots. |
Dark purple in color with a nose of black cherry, espresso and truffles. Soft on the palate, medium-bodied with fruit, reminiscent of black cherry, blueberry and cranberry. A natural pairing with hearty pastas, especially with meat sauces, pork dishes and pizza. |
