Cain Concept 2004

Cabernet Sauvignon 61%, Merlot 16%, Cabernet Franc 12%, Petit Verdot 11%. The 2004 Concept is a rich, dark purple (not ruby). Cain's Concept starts with sustainably grown cabernet sauvignon from the eastern and western benches in Napa's Oakville, Rutherford and St. Helena appellations. Small quantities of cab franc, merlot and petit verdot are then added to build complexity, nuance and structure. The 2004 comes from a cooler vintage leading to a long, near-perfect growing season. Almost royal purple in color the wine has nose reminiscent of warm cherry pie with hints of baking spices and fresh cut flowers. Sweet and round on the entry it is smooth, with refined tannins. This should drink well for years to come.
